Addictions

As well as alcohol and prescription and non-prescription medications, some people use other addictive behaviors, such as food, gambling, shopping, pornography, etc, in order to distract themselves from the very thing that is making them tense and unhappy. Where a serious illness is present, an addiction may develop in order to escape the pain and fear being endured.

For most people with an addiction, the addictive behavior eventually fails to give the desired result, leaving the person seeking pleasure and stress-relief from another source, a behavior which can result in multiple addictions.
